Description
I enjoy teaching poetry all year longβnot just for National Poetry Month in April. Our poetry centers are more engaging when students have the option to work together with a partner for Poetry Partner Reading.
βSo these Poetry Prompt Cards were designed to make partner reading with poetry more engaging and on task for students.
They are versatile enough to use for partner reading, small group poetry work, or a whole class poetry discussion.
You can also EDIT these prompt cards to align to your expectations and your studentsβ needs with poetry discussions in your classroom.
βThe set has 18 questions that can be used with ANY poem.
For my poetry centers, I print them on cardstock and laminate for durability. Once I cut them out, I hole punch the top corner and attach them to a book ring. This makes them super easy to include with my poetry center / poetry activities.
Students then take the ring of questions out and continue their poetry work by asking each other the questions.

My students loved this activity. They were very engaged in the learning.
Jennifer Montemayor –
This is an excellent resource that I have used with my bilingual students.

Students in grades 3-6 used the cards to wrap up our poetry study. They worked cooperatively to respond to 6 cards of their choosing. We then discussed as a class. The students liked when their group had the same thoughts as another group or totally had a different take from another group. They enjoyed supporting their reasoning while knowing that everyone can interpret poems differently.
Hey Little Lumieres –
Great visual prompts!
