The Butterfly Teacher · Resource Licensing

Product Terms of Use

Simple, clear guidelines for using our educational resources in classrooms, tutoring sessions, and homeschool learning.

Here's the short version: Your purchase or free download grants permission to use the resource for your own authorized instruction. It does not transfer ownership of the content or grant permission to resell, publicly distribute, share with other educators, or upload the resource into AI tools.

Effective date: October 17, 2026. Applies to resources obtained through thebutterflyteacher.com on or after this date, unless a product states different terms. See the marketplace and prior-purchase information below.

Who Can Use a Resource?

One License, One Educator or Homeschool Household

Unless a product listing or a separate written agreement says otherwise, each standard license is for one named teacher, one individual tutor, or one homeschooling household.

A teacher may reuse the same resource with their own students across school years. A homeschooling household may use it with the children in that household.

Tutoring: A single licensed tutor may use the resource with multiple students or families as part of that tutor's own direct instruction.

That permission does not allow the tutor to give editable or reusable source files to families, other tutors, or a tutoring company for independent use.

Printed student activity pages and secure student-facing assignments are allowed as needed for instruction.

If multiple educators will independently use a resource, each needs an appropriate license or a separate school or organization agreement.

Purchasing a resource provides a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license, not ownership of the intellectual property.

The Do's and Don'ts

How You Can Use Our Resources

You May

  • Print or copy student-facing pages for your own students or children in your licensed homeschool household.
  • Use the resource in your own physical classroom, virtual classroom, one-on-one tutoring, or homeschool instruction.
  • Assign student materials through restricted-access learning platforms, such as Google Classroom, or private links available only to the students and caregivers you teach.
  • Make reasonable accessibility or instructional adjustments for your own authorized students, where the file format allows.
  • Show limited previews or discuss the resource in a blog post, presentation, or social media post, with credit and a link to the original product page, without sharing downloadable files or substantial answer keys.

You May Not

  • Upload or post the full resource on publicly accessible websites, social platforms, drives, school servers, resource banks, or search-indexable pages.
  • Email or distribute reusable copies to other teachers, tutors, schools, or families for their independent use without the required licenses.
  • Sell, sublicense, give away, or redistribute the resource or adapted versions, whether for free or for profit.
  • Extract elements, designs, answer keys, or text to create competing resources or products for distribution.
  • Remove copyright notices or represent the work as your own.
  • Upload resources into third-party AI services or use them for AI training, analysis, extraction, or generation without prior written permission, subject to applicable law.
Private sharing means genuinely private. Use restricted student access and avoid public or organization-wide shared folders. Students may receive the pages they need for a lesson. Other educators do not receive a reusable license merely because they can access your class files.

Important AI Policy

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

We do not authorize you to upload, paste, transmit, or submit any portion of our resources to third-party generative AI systems without advance written permission.

This includes ordinary AI chat tools, even if your purpose is lesson planning or summarization rather than training an AI model.

Unless The Butterfly Teacher gives prior written permission, you may not:

  • Use resource files, worksheets, passages, answer keys, images, designs, or text as prompts, attachments, reference materials, or knowledge-base content in third-party AI tools.
  • Use the materials to train, fine-tune, test, evaluate, develop, or improve AI or machine-learning models.
  • Scrape, extract, digitize in bulk, compile datasets, or create searchable AI retrieval collections from the materials.
  • Ask an AI system to replicate, paraphrase, regenerate, or adapt our materials for redistribution, sale, or creation of competing resources.
  • Permit another person or company to carry out any of these restricted activities on your behalf.
Using AI in your teaching is not prohibited.

This policy limits what you may do with our protected resource content.

You may use AI tools to create your own original lesson ideas without uploading or reproducing The Butterfly Teacher materials.

These restrictions apply to both purchased resources and free downloads, to the extent allowed by applicable law.

Additional Guidelines

Copyright, Licenses, and Special Cases

Copyright and Ownership

The Butterfly Teacher and/or applicable rights holders retain their rights in the resource content. A purchase or download grants only the usage permissions stated in the applicable license.

Resource files are not licensed for public redistribution or commercial republishing.

Multiple Users and School Licenses

Multiple teachers or staff members who use a resource independently need their own licenses unless a school, district, or organization has received written permission under a multi-user arrangement.

Contact us to ask about special licensing.

Purchases Through Third-Party Marketplaces

Resources purchased through TPT or another marketplace are also governed by the licensing terms applicable at the time of purchase on that platform.

Where an applicable marketplace license controls or conflicts with this page, that marketplace license governs.

This website policy does not retroactively remove rights already granted with earlier purchases.

Changes to These Terms

We may update this page for future purchases and downloads.

The version applicable to a transaction generally is the one presented at the time of purchase or download, subject to any agreement and applicable law.

Check the effective date above for the current website version.

Quick Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the same resource with next year's class?

Yes. A licensed teacher may reuse the resource with their own students from year to year.

Can I share it with my teaching partner?

Not for the partner's independent use under your individual license. Your colleague needs an appropriate additional license or a separate written group agreement.

Can I upload it to Google Classroom?

Yes, when access is restricted to your own students and, when needed, their caregivers. Do not post files publicly or in a shared educator resource library.

Can one tutor use it with several families?

Yes. One licensed tutor may reuse it during that tutor's direct instruction with multiple students or families.

The tutor may give students activity copies needed for lessons, but may not distribute reusable source files for families or other tutors to use independently.

Can I upload the PDF into ChatGPT or another AI chat?

No, not without prior written permission. Our AI policy covers ordinary third-party AI chats as well as model training, data extraction, and similar uses.

Can I change a worksheet for accessibility needs?

Yes, reasonable adjustments for your own authorized learners are permitted where the resource format allows. The adapted resource may not be redistributed or sold.

What if I downloaded a free resource?

Free resources are still licensed for authorized use and are not public-domain materials.

They may not be redistributed, sold, or uploaded to AI services under these terms.
