Description
Looking for some fun summer reading activity challenges to keep kids engaged over summer break? These bookmark challenges have 35 reading activities that you can use with any book, magazine, or other reading materials. They help students stay engaged with literacy at home!
Whether you are a teacher, tutor, summer school teacher, or a parent, these summer reading activity challenges make it easy for you to provide kids with a reading incentive for the summer. Plus, they will prevent the dreaded summer slide!
During the end of the school year, I am always looking for ways to encourage my students to read over the summer.
Having fun reading challenges prevent kids from saying things like:
- “I don’t know what to read!”
- “Reading is boring!”
- “Ok, I’m done…now what?”
So this resource give them interesting reading ideas with a variety of ways to fulfill them.
☀️This Resource Contains:
- 9 weeks of summer reading challenges
- Teacher chart for record-keeping
- 3 different editable awards for student achievement (Black & White + Color)
- “Are You Up For A Challenge?” sign with student directions
☀️ These bookmarks are great for encouraging kids to read for the summer. You can also use them in your classroom before summer arrives.
WAYS TO USE THESE SUMMER READING ACTIVITIES:
SUGGESTED IDEA #1: This resource has one set of bookmarks that goes in a numbered order. I also included a tracking chart for this set so that teachers and students can keep track of which reading challenges have been completed. This set can be used for reading homework or as an early finisher activity.
SUGGESTED IDEA #2: If you use these before Summer break arrives, these reading challenge bookmarks also have a set that is not numbered. I print several of these out, but I don’t cut them apart. I leave them in a basket that is easily accessible to students. The basket is labeled with the included, “Are You Up For A Challenge?” sign.
Students complete the reading challenge bookmarks at their own pace. For each bookmark that students complete and cut out, they drop it in a small box that I also have in the classroom. At the end of every month, I pull out the completed bookmarks and give out prizes to students who completed the challenges.
SUGGESTED IDEA #3: You can also use this resource for summer reading. Students who come back from breaks with completed bookmarks also earn the included certificates and a fun extra prize to go with it.
